We now want to hear from you about how you use our Children’s Centre sites and your views on planned changes to our programme.

There are currently five Children’s Centre sites in the borough, offering a limited range of support services and activities for families with children under five years of age.

Like all local authorities, we are facing significant funding pressures. As a Council, we have a duty to set a balanced budget, but we have faced difficult financial challenges and an overall reduction in funding of 42% since 2010. We need to make savings of £39.4 million in 2024/25, and there is a forecasted budget gap of £118.7 million for the five years through to 2028/29.

Considering our budgetary constraints, we are consolidating our Children’s Centre Programme service and activities and planning to maximise our use of our new Youth and Family Hubs. We have recently opened our first Youth and Family Hub at Ponders End on 13 December 2023, and our second Youth and Family Hub at Craig Park launched on the 8 July 2024. The hubs offer a wide range of services for families from pre-birth to 18 and up to 25 for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), making it easier for them to get the help they need at the right time.

This will mean we no longer hosting services, support and activities at our sites at Raynham School and Hazelwood School. We want to make sure you have a say in the future Children’s Centre Programme so that we can provide this in a way that works for our families.
